So, the wedding was a 10. The weather cooperated, there were no family blunders, the food was great, the wine flowed, and my best man speech was well received. I gave Steven, as he is now called, and his wife Kalina, The Pope of Astoria Blessing.

Marriage is a big responsibility. This weekend past, my good friend Steve Schauer (Steve-O) got married on the Beach in Ocean City, NJ. I was allowed to go by the Pope, as I was the best man. The Pope could not make it himself, as he has the gout and cannot travel. Steve-o has been like an older, wiser, more mature brother to me since about the age of 21. I might not have made it out of College without him. So, after his last night of bachelorhood in Sommer`s Point, NJ, I asked Steve-o how he felt about his inevitable participation in a tasteful beach wedding the next day.

By Papal Decree…..

The Pope gave me clear instructions that while in Ocean City, NJ I was to fullfill my duties as best man, but also to think of the parish back home, and to return with something for them. To learn a lesson and share it maybe, or an act of charity in their name perhaps. Well, I thought about all of that stuff, and this is what I came up with.

Today I visited Joe`s Pork Store on Ditmars Boulevard bewtween 37th and 38th Street. Paul Livoti, son of THE Joe Livoti was kind enough to show me around. Paul is great, he`s a smart guy who even offered me half of the Chicken Parm sandwich his wife brought him, now that is class. Joe`s has been there since 1957, you really dont see places like this anymore.
